The Mistakes. Are they gifts to help us embrace the change we want?

How Do We Deal With Mistakes?

Do we allow ourselves to make them?

Do we genuinely embrace them, or do we only say so in public—while deep down, we still fear them?

The bigger question is:

Do we truly understand how to turn a mistake into a tool for transformation?

🌱 On the journey of change, mistakes are not obstacles... they are signals.

With every failed attempt, there’s an opportunity for deeper understanding—of ourselves and our surroundings. Yet often, we are conditioned to fear mistakes, while the truth is: every leap in awareness begins with a small stumble.

💡 A thought-provoking example:

When writing our résumé, we proudly highlight our achievements—and that’s great. But... why don’t we mention the mistakes that shaped us? Why do we hide those moments of real learning? Aren’t they strong indicators of character and clarity?

👔 From a hiring perspective:

If you were a hiring manager, would you only look for “the perfect candidate”? Or would you seek people who have faced real challenges, grown from them, and gained wisdom through experience?

In reality, those who’ve evolved through failure are the ones most capable of resilience, innovation, and sound decision-making.

Unfortunately, automated systems and traditional hiring filters often miss these subtle, powerful traits—traits that separate the average from the game-changers.

✍️ So what can we do today?

Here are a few simple, practical steps to change your relationship with mistakes:

  1. Acknowledge your mistake without excuses. This takes real courage.

  2. Ask yourself: What did I learn? Write it down—even if it feels small.

  3. Share your experience with humility. Don't be afraid to say: “I thought I was right, but I was wrong—and here’s what I learned.”

  4. Change your language. Instead of “I failed,” say: “I tried something that didn’t work. Now I see better.”

  5. Evaluate others more deeply. Don’t look for perfection—look for those with the courage to grow.

💬 As James Joyce once said:

“Mistakes are the portals of discovery.”

When we shift our view of mistakes from "a weakness" to "the beginning of insight," we begin to build a new reality—one that is more mature, balanced, and profoundly human.

Let’s welcome mistakes... as companions on the journey of transformation to empower a real JOY in this Journey.
